CBP captures the official Global Entry photo at the enrollment interview — there is NO photo upload step in the TTP application portal at ttp.cbp.dhs.gov. Most users searching for "Global Entry photo" are either (a) confused about the application flow, (b) preparing to renew their US passport alongside Global Entry, or (c) updating their photo for the Mobile Passport Control app. Here is how to prepare for each.
You apply at ttp.cbp.dhs.gov by completing a profile, paying the $120 non-refundable application fee, and submitting for conditional approval. Conditional approval takes 4–13 months currently. There is no photo upload at this stage — only biographic data, travel history, and address details.
After conditional approval, you are scheduled for an in-person interview at a CBP Enrollment Center (around 75 locations across the US plus a handful in Canada / Ireland / UAE) or you complete Enrollment on Arrival at a participating US international airport on your next return trip. At the interview, the CBP officer fingerprints you and takes a photograph that becomes your official Global Entry photo. This photo is matched against you at every future Global Entry kiosk arrival.
You can update the Global Entry photo later by visiting any Enrollment Center walk-in or by requesting Enrollment on Arrival re-imaging. There is no online photo update — the in-person capture is required for biometric integrity. Children under 14 follow the same flow but a parent or legal guardian must be present at the interview.
Global Entry membership is linked to your passport. CBP will not approve the application if your passport expires within 1 year. Renew the passport first using a fresh 2×2 inch passport-style photo, then apply for Global Entry — or apply and update the passport number in your TTP profile after renewal.
Heavy beard growth, weight changes, or new haircut between your passport photo and the CBP enrollment capture can slow the interview but does not block enrollment. The biometric match is to your live appearance at the kiosk, not to your passport photo.
CBP officers ask you to remove glasses for the enrollment photo to match the State Department's November 2023 glasses ban. Bring a case for them. This applies to the official photo capture — kiosk facial-recognition arrivals tolerate glasses.
You do not need to bring a photo — CBP captures one on-site. Bringing your own photo will not be used. If you have prepared a 2×2 inch passport-style photo for a planned passport renewal, save it for the DS-11 / DS-82 form.
