SENTRI is the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveler Program for the US/Mexico land border. The official SENTRI photo is captured by CBP at the enrollment interview — there is NO photo upload in the TTP application portal at ttp.cbp.dhs.gov. Most "SENTRI photo" searches come from users renewing their US passport, US passport card, or Mexican passport at the same time as the SENTRI application. Here is how each path works.
You apply at ttp.cbp.dhs.gov by completing a profile, paying the $122.25 USD non-refundable application fee (the most expensive of the four major TTPs), and submitting for conditional approval. Both US and Mexican citizens (plus US LPRs and qualifying applicants) can apply. Conditional approval takes 6–14 months currently. There is no photo upload at this stage.
After conditional approval, you are scheduled for an in-person interview at a SENTRI Enrollment Center on the US side of the border. Unlike NEXUS, SENTRI enrollment is US-only — there is no CBSA equivalent. At the interview, the CBP officer fingerprints you, takes your photo, and inspects your enrolled vehicle (SENTRI also enrolls a specific vehicle, which gets a transponder for dedicated SENTRI lanes at land border crossings).
The official SENTRI photo is matched against you at every SENTRI lane at the US/Mexico land border. SENTRI members can also use Global Entry kiosks at US airports for free (same biometric backend), making SENTRI effectively a "land + air" trusted traveler program for US/Mexico border communities.
SENTRI membership is linked to your passport. CBP will not approve the application if your primary passport expires within 1 year. Renew it first — use the 2×2 inch (51×51 mm) US passport spec or the 4.5×3.5 cm Mexican passport spec depending on citizenship.
SENTRI enrolls both you AND a specific vehicle. The vehicle must be registered in your name (or your spouse's, with notarized consent). Photos of the vehicle's title and registration are not required at application but must be presented at the enrollment interview.
CBP aligns with the November 2023 State Department glasses ban for the official enrollment photo. Officers ask you to remove glasses. SENTRI lanes at the border tolerate glasses on arrival.
You do not need to bring a photo — CBP captures one on-site. If you have prepared a 2×2 inch passport photo for a planned passport renewal, save it for the DS-11 / DS-82 form.
